Most of the software or video games you use work with a unique serial number assigned to them.  A serial is simply one of those numbers pumped out by a hacker or whatever you want to run your software without a pre-paid license.

A keygen, short for Key generator or more commonly known as a key generator is a software program that generates serial numbers to install, unlock, or launch an application.
